The implementation and upscaling of Smart Cities is increasingly finding its way across several rising economies, including Indonesia and many other areas across Southeast Asia. This digital revolution is offering an unprecedented window of opportunity to harness the power of technology to enable sustainable economic and urban development, thereby improving the lives of local communities and future generations.
Indonesia’s Smart Cities Movement
As the fourth most populous country in the world, and the 14th largest by land size, Indonesia is regularly cited as an emerging ‘sleeping giant’.
With the Indonesian government keen to capitalize on the nation’s massive potential by pushing hard on Smart City solutions, Sinar Mas Land, the largest property developer in Indonesia, with the help of Juniper Networks, has realized the digital transformation of the country’s biggest township in Jakarta, BSD City, by transforming 26-Hectares of land area into an integrated smart city called the Digital Hub.
The Digital Hub is built with the latest networking and ICT technology, encompassing fiber optics to provide high-speed data connection and digital services to better automate and digitalize day-to-day activities for BSD City’s community, while facilitating innovation, connecting companies and building more efficient and smarter homes for its citizens.
Accelerating the Digital Transformation Growth for Indonesia’s Silicon Valley
The Digital Hub within the BSD City is also home to several start-ups, educational institutions and multinational companies focusing on digital technology. To date, a number of these companies have joined the Digital Hub ecosystem, including Traveloka, Grab, NTT, SIRCLO, MyRepublic and BIZZY.
The Digital Hub has since been dubbed as Indonesia’s “Silicon Valley”, referencing the famous area south of San Francisco in California, where several global technology giants are located.
Through the implementation of Juniper’s experience-first networking solutions, including our QFX and Apstra software solutions, alongside PT.Westcon International Indonesia as the distributor and PT.NTT Indonesia Solutions as a partner, Sinar Mas Land was able to successfully roll out a simplified, automated and secure data center infrastructure for its Digital Hub, while providing high-speed connectivity to all end users in its community.
At Juniper, supporting enterprises in their digital transformation journey and solving the challenges and complexities of the modern data center infrastructure is our mission. With Juniper Apstra’s technology built on an intent-based networking design to enable the programming of a centrally-controlled infrastructure through API-based software applications, Sinar Mars Land is able to greatly simplify and manage the entire network and its devices seamlessly.
As part of this township project, the public will be able to see the data infrastructure concept implemented by Juniper Networks and also test out our solutions through an on-site showcase in the BSD City developed by Sinar Mas Land.
