Today, Juniper Networks is committing to make its global facilities carbon neutral by 2025.
Our mission is to power connections and empower change and I can think of no more critical area to empower change than in addressing the world’s climate crisis. Now, more than ever, we are committed to ensuring networking is a force for good in the world.
That includes building global resiliency to combat climate risk throughout our business and supply chain and enabling solutions for a low-carbon future. This is an important milestone on our ongoing journey that will carry Juniper toward more ambitious action and more meaningful impact on the global climate issue. We started on this path in 2008 and are thrilled to now be recognized on CDP’s A list for our work to tackle climate change.
With a long term strategy in mind, Juniper’s initial approach to achieving carbon neutrality relies on two key strategies: energy efficiency measures and clean energy sources. We plan to only consider investments in offset projects where our key strategies are impractical.
Energy efficiency is an integral part of our campus office building and design process globally. Our design, construction, safety and facilities management approach has integrated LEED’s principles of energy efficient systems, resource conservation and environmentally preferred materials, achieving both Platinum and Gold LEED certifications at our locations.
Juniper sites with labs account for the majority of our global energy usage, so we’ve focused our energy management effort on various lab environments housed within our operating facilities worldwide, such as research and development along with sales and customer service labs. We have adopted innovative solutions to saving energy, such as chiller-less operations that use natural outdoor air to achieve significant gains in energy efficiency. Juniper’s building operations, from lighting controls to cooling systems in the labs, are designed and managed to operate efficiently and effectively.
The challenges of the new decade have given me and my leadership team the opportunity to reaffirm our role in building a sustainable future. Our actions today will shape the future experience of every employee, customer and partner.
