Earlier this year, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its latest report on the climate crisis – and its findings on the raise in global temperatures, fossil fuel emissions and climate impacts on the future of our planet are stark.
Simply put, our actions over the next seven years will have critical implications on the viability of humanity’s continued existence on earth.
And that is why, at Juniper Networks, we are committed to playing our part toward building a sustainable future, with a pledge to achieve carbon neutrality across our global operations by 2025.
Striving Toward Carbon Neutrality
In a significant step toward achieving these goals, we’re proud to announce that Juniper Networks’ India Excellence Centre (IEC) has commissioned its solar power plant in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka, approximately 260km away from our facilities in Bengaluru.
The solar power plant is projected to save 571,492 tons of CO2 emissions over the project’s lifetime. But what exactly does this mean?
This is the equivalent of cutting down on 1,465,047,636 miles driven in an average gasoline-powered vehicle, 640,158,728 pounds of coal burned or the electricity use in 111,198 homes for one year (according to EPA data). It’s a significant milestone, and we’re excited about the impact Juniper can make toward reducing emissions.
Consisting of 26,628 solar panel modules, the solar power plant has a capacity of 16MW and an AC output of 11.3MW to the grid. Alongside two existing power purchase agreements, this has provided the ability for Juniper Networks’ IEC to secure up to 87% of its power requirements through new, additional renewable energy.
Shaping the Future Together
Our mission is to power connections and empower change – to be a responsible global citizen and influence meaningful differences in the world around us.
But to do that, we understand that in our connected world, the world’s challenges will continue to be solved one way: together.
Spearheaded by the Juniper facilities team alongside numerous key internal stakeholders including the procurement team, the project was built in close partnership with several industry partners who provided the technical expertise for a project of this scale.
Green to the Core
As Juniper advances its carbon neutral commitment, Juniper will continue to drive new, additional renewable energy generation on a global scale to meaningfully reduce emissions.
We will continue to go beyond merely compliance to design and deliver products that are environmentally responsible in all phases of their lifecycles.
And we’ll do it all while continuing to drive sustainability-focused alliances not just within our industry, but alongside like-minded customers, partners and end-users.
