Juniper Networks and AWS are pleased to announce the integration with AWS’ Cloud WAN Tunnel-less solution powered by Juniper Session Smart™ Routing. The AWS Cloud WAN Tunnel-less solution is a new capability that provides customers a simple and more performant way to build global SD-WAN using AWS’ global network as a middle-mile transport network. With this capability, the Juniper Session Smart Networking appliances in the branch and in AWS can natively peer with the Cloud WAN Tunnel-less solution using Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) without requiring specialized tunneling protocols.
Juniper does not use any tunneling technology (IPSec, GRE, VXLAN, etc.) with the Secure Vector Routing protocol. Juniper Session Smart Routing provides a unique solution for customers that established a complete branch, edge or data center connectivity to AWS cloud connectivity without the need for any tunnels. Customers achieve substantial benefits in bandwidth savings when migrating or connecting to the AWS cloud with Juniper Session Smart Routing.

How does Juniper Session Smart Routing integrate with AWS Cloud WAN Tunnel-less?
With Tunnel-less Connect, customers can deploy a Cloud WAN core network across multiple AWS regions to connect one or more of your Juniper Session Smart Routing SD-WAN appliances to the core network edges (CNE) in every region. The Cloud WAN core network acts as a routing underlay and transitively routes traffic to all Juniper Session Smart Routing SD-WAN appliances attached to the same network segment.
Juniper Session Smart Routing connects to AWS Cloud WAN Tunnel-less using native BGP in a virtual private cloud (VPC) on Cloud WAN without usage of tunnels. This simplifies the extension of customers’ SD-WAN in the AWS cloud and allows them to leverage high bandwidth from the AWS global network for branch-to-branch connectivity. Furthermore, this feature supports in-built network segmentation, enabling customers to build a secure SD-WAN at a global scale.
