Juniper Networks has been using and contributing to open source and open standards since being founded in 1996. In response to feedback from our customers four years ago, the Juniper executive team decided to focus and accelerate our open source efforts. Juniper now leads the industry in delivering open solutions, including network automation (e.g. OpenConfig), network telemetry (e.g. OpenNTI), lifecycle management (via Ansible and PyEZ) and SDN (e.g Tungsten Fabric). These contributions across all of Juniper have amounted to hundreds of commitments to open source codebases across dozens of engineers. We thank all of our engineers and leaders for their continued contributions.
Juniper has now decided to expand our leadership and contributions in open source and open standards. As a part of my personal interest and commitment to open source, I have joined the Linux Foundation for Networking (LFN) governing Board. One of Juniper’s top Distinguished Engineers continues to play a major role in advancing the use of Tungsten Fabric in open-standards based reference architectures such as Akraino Edge, Private LTE/5G Integrated Cloud Native Blueprint and the CNTT reference architecture, as well as an option in ONAP as a SDN Controller. Additionally, we have expanded the charter of product leaders within our lines of business to further ensure these open-source projects are being prioritized and executed upon.
I feel privileged to have joined Juniper and be a part of this ongoing, innovative journey. Our engineering team continues to develop and maintain the Tungsten Fabric codebase as well as a commercial, supported version for our customers. We invite the industry to contribute as well. I am also working to accelerate our efforts on Tungsten Fabric support for K8S networking and extending our roadmap.
I look forward to continuing to engage with the open-source community. I am confident our continuing work to integrate open source within our broad product portfolio, as well as expanded community efforts, will bolster industry approaches to achieve an even more integrated, holistic multi-cloud.
