Businesses looking to take advantage of digital transformation are migrating to cloud hosted applications and data for improved resilience, elasticity, and scalability. But, due to a mix of application needs, functionality and commercial reasons, they are typically selecting different cloud environments and locations, whether public or private, centralized or edge. As a result, there is an increasing number of organizations grappling with connecting multiple applications and services across various cloud-based locations for a wide range of internal and external uses.
Furthermore, current methods of connecting to multiple heterogeneous clouds are inconsistent, with each cloud provider having its own best practices, tools, platforms and limitations. This creates a challenging environment for business IT teams, especially in small to medium sized organizations, who are typically not staffed to support multiple, heterogenous cloud environments. This impacts end-user Service Level Expectations (SLEs), security policy management and the ability for organizations to select the optimal cloud solution for each type of data and puts applications at risk.
Solving the issue with innovation: Juniper Cloud Interlink
To address these needs, Juniper has developed Juniper Cloud Interlink, an AI-powered software product that is being incubated in Juniper Beyond Labs, our innovation hub designed to tackle networking’s most difficult challenges. Juniper Cloud Interlink was developed to solve the challenges and complexity associated with building and operating secured, assured hybrid and multicloud networks. This is done by orchestrating and managing the hybrid cloud and multicloud infrastructure.
Once connections are established, Juniper Cloud Interlink will assure network experiences, determine when expectations are not met, and proactively provide resolution for a troubleshooting-free experience. Since the native network and security services offered by some cloud providers are limited, Juniper Cloud Interlink offers embedded security and supports bring-your-own security options. Its single, centralized portal provides administration, visibility into application connectivity performance and the health of the network and cost optimization for IT and DC operations teams.
Juniper Cloud Interlink will enable enterprises to connect applications across public cloud, co-location and on-premise data centers at scale with fully integrated network and security stacks, irrespective of location. And looking at this issue from the standpoint of our service provider customers, Juniper Cloud Interlink can be used internally to better manage their own multicloud environment connection needs or can be offered as a service to help their business customers succeed in today’s multicloud environment. The solution is now in the advanced stages of development, but not commercially available yet.
Proof of Concept: In the customer’s domain
Being able to collaborate with a customer to put the solution through its paces in a real-world setting has been an invaluable opportunity to learn, refine and confirm its efficacy. Liberty Global International was looking for a solution to manage multiple cloud environments for its customers. The PoC’s outcomes demonstrated to both organizations that Juniper Cloud Interlink is viable, both technically and operationally.
It’s also a powerful example of Juniper’s innovation being tightly in step with our customers’ markets, problems and requirements. We aim to make every connection count for their customers!
